Untitled-24 (OCaml)
A downloadable game for Windows
OrcaJam 2024!
Theme is.... Go Big!
My interpretation:
I was feeling a bit worn out after recently completing the Ludum Dare Jam (I made a Hangman game in Rust) I decided to take a simple step backwards and recreate the very first game/app I was proud of. This was Grade 11 Computer Science in Meadow Lake SK. I was enjoying my time learning C++ and making Number guessing games. When I started using QuickBasic in CSC 100 I found it to be really expressive for my level of skill. During class I wrote a simple procedure in the terminal to simulate a chasing enemy, and moving player, constricted inside a square room. This app is a faithful recreation of that previous program that I remember nostalgically.
I guess for me "Go Big or Go Home" just meant sticking around and getting some work done, even if it wasn't special or important. It was a lot of fun to talk to and meet all the talented people in the room.
I am interested in functional programming languages now, so I picked up OCaml after hearing about it on Youtube. I found that the installation process was lengthy, and quirky. Later I found that compiler did not present helpful error messages. But I did enjoy my time with it's cool type system, even in this little baby application, that you can run on Windows right now.
